I am a recent graduate from EVHS, and I too had high hopes for this school. But there are many things that limit students potential. Our current principal Ms. Vaeth takes no action to ensure our well being, and fails to actively communicate with the student body. Academic counselors, while they provide satisfactory help, are low in number and cannot assist everyone who walks into their office. One counselor has even been known to discourage seniors from applying to private universities simply because her own children failed to enter a private university. Good teachers are hard to come by at Evergreen, and the best ones are laid off due to budget cuts. However, Evergreen is still the top in its district - an accomplishment made by the students who work hard, possibly even harder than the administration that does not live up to its duty.

I had such high hopes for this school and when Mr. McDonough was the prinicpal I was certain they would be met. He was an amazing principal. The next administration seemed to have taken the school from a positive place to a prison like environment.NO more FUN activities for the kids during the year. There used to be bands and lunch time entertainment with contests etc. The Teachers all seem wonderful and sincerely care about the children. It would be so much easier for parents to be involved if the teachers were consistent in using school loop to enter grades and homework. There was an inconsistency in the way it was used and though an amazing tool ineffective when the information is inaccurate. The current administration is unacceptable. The lack of follow through is ridiculous and requires a lot of work for parents. However, Cindy Pullano in attendance is the BEST!

Even though my previous rating on the school still remains which was unsatisfactory. I want to say that a few people I have had to deal with have been extremely helpful. I believe this school needs more people like the lady in attendance (Cindy). When it comes down to the teachers and school...Actions speak louder than words.

Speaking as a staff member of EVHS, the one thing I notice the most is lack of parent involvement in school activities. Yes, we are awfully short-staffed. We all do the very best we can by the students with the limited resources we are given.

I go to the school as a freshman. And although you may think I'm unqualified to rate this school. I truthfully hate ev. I thought it would be a good school and even if the outside of the campus is pretty, the inside isn't exactly amazing. Their is gum everywhere, bathrooms are dirty all the time. The teachers don't seem to really care. I was transfered out of the classes I was assigned at the begging of the year three times. One a month into the semester. The teachers seem to not have time to talk to you. Right now, the only reason I'm staying is because of a few of friends. I cannot see myself staying at this school. And I'm looking into going to Santa Teresa. Don't be fooled by the good reviews. The parents don't know what the school is like.

The principal who 'rules' the school needs to be reolaced and also reported to the School District directly. She is condesending when talking about any issues and also takes away simple events which in the past have been important and enjoyable for the students. I am a parent of two students and have had discussions with the principal and a petition should be started, at least for the DIstrict Office should be aware of the discontent, both from the parents and teachers. It really is a shame, to think my property taxes are paying for her salary...Sorry, wish I could be more constructive, but she really should find another job, perhaps a prison warden...

My child attends EVHS. Football equipment was stolen due to the lack of adequate amount of lockers for players. We are now having to pay for the stolen material. There are a lot of fights on school campus and the staff rarely even knows about them. The office staff is so busy they are not even able to pay attention to the fact that a student is in their office. There are some admins that are absolutely wonderful and helpful but I'm becoming more and more disenchanted about this school every day. Private school is becoming sadly my only option because the tax dollars are just not going to a good education here.

A lot of the recent ratings are true. Don't be sidetracked by the glamor of going to a new state of the art school. This school used to be new, but people can sure destroy things in a hurry. Not only are public facilities as bathrooms in horrible shape, the administration falters to listen to students demands. Be warned, your students deserve better than this school. I am telling you this because they do.

I'm really disappointed in the way the school runs. In simple words, this school's appearance is great, but the inner core of it isn't great at all. Counselors are a big issue and they are not well-organized.

I abhor this school. There's no unity, everyone is rude, and while the campus may look great at times, everything is completely divided. Any attempts at unity (Peace Circle event, Sept. 11 respects, etc) are ignored, destroyed, or forgotten. I'm a student. I know.

I go to this school, and if it wasn't for my friends, there's no reason to be here. This school is filled with administration who just don't care about the students. The principal has no communication with us! Teachers are average. Some of the teachers are fabulous, others aren't so much. Extra-curriculars? Let's say a majority look forward to botc, hc, and dances. That's about it. Overall, EV isn't what everyone thinks it is.

Well, we thought we were getting a good principal, but it seems not. Why does she fire good teachers? My son lost a good math teacher thanks to this principal. The principal won't say why she didn't rehire the teacher, but I saw my son do much better in math with that teacher than he had ever done, thanks to his teacher. I think parents should be able to over ride a principal's decision. This principal is so arrogant and thinks she is never wrong. Why has she been dumped on our great school?

-Number of AP Classes: Average -Number of Honors Classes: Below Average -Student Administration: Below Average -Counselors: Below Average -Office Staff: Below Average -Music Department: Average -Sports programs: Average -Teacher Quality: Below Average -- Average -Campus Quality: Above Average -Diversity: Average -Parent Involvement: Below Average Personally, I would choose to invest $15,000 a year and go to a private school where I would be provided with more opportunities than at EVHS. Mainly, the teachers and lack of funds are holding the school back from being what could potentially be a great school. All of the good teachers are leaving while the lazy, and unenthusiastic teachers are coming, which is tragic for the students. There definently needs to be more parent involvement for this school to progress. Don't let the administration solely run the school.

I feel that this is an excellent school. Yes, I may be biased because I attend EVHS, but, as it is clear from test scores, EVHS is one of the best schools in the ESUHSD. I came from a private middle school, and I had the option to attend a good private high school(such as Presentation). However, I chose to attend EVHS. It is a decision I definitely don't regret. The teachers really do care, and as it is a new school, it has taken some time for all the extra-curricular programs to settle in. Howver, in this 4th year of the school, we already offer some of the best AP classes and numerous art/music programs. In addition, we have excellent sports teams headed by wonderful coahces. In addition, parents are really involved in almost every aspect of the school. This warm environment provides a great platform for success.

I am happy my children go here. I am very happy they have good teachers and Mr. Salmon is the best. The principal Mrs. Cornelious is so wonderful and so helpful and works hard to night to see parents and students.

evergreen is great. my two children attend/have attended evergreen and they love it. staff is great. a few bad teachers but what school doesn't have those? principal is great and teachers are very involved with parents. lots of sports and clubs. they discipline the students very well from what i hear. only slight problem is it's overcrowded, but they are solving this by building a new building. hopefully this helps in the future.

The most important thing about a school is it's management, and let me tell you, EV does a very poor job at that.

Evergreen Valley High School is, in my opinion, a pretty good school. Every one of my daughter's teachers are highly qualified, and the administration is helpful and almost always available to answer my questions.

Evergreen High School should not deserve the good ratings that it has right now. My child goes to Evergreen Valley High School and she hates it. The school is over crowded. It takes a while for her to get lunch.

Quality of academic programs cannot be rated as the school is fairly new. There are not many extracurricular activities offered for students as htry outs are limited and a lot of the students that get selected are friends or acquantansies of players or teachers. Full parent involvement has not being fully established as it is a fairly new school

I was a part of a program entitled Accel Middle College. This middle college program is in conjuction with Evergreen High School and the East Side Union High School District. It serves 11-12th grade. Students attend college classes in the AM and high school courses in the afternoon. Classes are located at Evergreen College. This program allows college bound students to gain dual units and be prepared for college. Because high school students are taking college classes, the only cost are books and some course materials. There is a wide array of classes that one may take. The college professors are challenging, but good. One needs to be self disciplined to make this program work for them.

EVHS has potential to become one of the top public high schools in the Bay Area. I check my son's course work, and his progress; I also monitor the activities of the school, I think so far so good. I especially like the current Principal, he is energetic and very informative, EVHS as a young school do need this kind of leadership. The diversities of students in this school provides an very rich environment for teenagers to grow, and parent involvement is very good. With the growth of the population, quality education, and good administrative work from the Principal, I have no doubt EVHS will grow into a very good high school.

EVHS is still a very young school, and I hope it can keep up its current progress. As far as I can tell, some of the teaches are really good, but of course there are a few that are not up to standard, and I hope the school can address to that, basically listen to the students. I also think the school is kind of expanding very fast, in just 3 years, it is now has over 2100 students, but the principal is very good, and I do hope he can be the principal for a long time. Overall I am satisfy with the school, and I do see it has very good potential.

Large class sizes which lead to very little individual attention for each student. Also the administration is very disorganized and it takes going through a lot of processes to get anything done. The teachers are mostly new with little experience.

Student Review EV isn't as good as it used to be. The laptop program ended because of lack of money. The principals were rotated and now EV is discussing Common Dress [which i am aganist] and reregistering because the whole school is overcrowded. The school is designed for 1500 students. But is already at 1497 students and does not have any seniors yet. So this school has fallen from its glitz and glamor and has become an overcrowded school with no money.

I got to this brand new high school in San Jose, California. There is a long line of students wanting to get into this school and I got in. This school issues laptops to each student every year; they collect them when school ends. The laptops help the students learn in a 'new' environment. Students learn to use computers, do projects on them, and use them as resources for education. Evergreen Valley High School has four different schools in it. The four schools are: Science & Technology, Human Performance, Humanities, and Global Economy. These schools individualise the way students learn. Students who want to be engineers or who want a career in Technology go to the school of Science & Technology, students who want to become doctors or anything has to do with Health care join Human Performance, etc... All careers are split amongst these schools. This makes it a safe environment for students to learn, they get to know more about each other then worrying about the other schools. The teachers are really nice and they pay more attention to their students. I really think if you want your kids to get a good education, EVHS is the place for them to be. Go Cougars!
