I am an 8th grade student a this school and its my 5th year. I do have to say there are many positive and negative things about it. The assistant principal Bartels has made many students and parents very uncomfortalbe I have to say. She beleives she has too much authority over us and wants respect. She will not get and respect from anyone until she lightens up. I know at this time, the staff is not too happy with us right now, however I have heard this from parents and students since she has began here. She is completely unapproachable. The school is always encouaraging parents to talk with the office staff if they need help, but they are also unapproachable. It seems as if whenever somebody tries to talk to them, they are being bothered. The library staff is also not at all friendly.

The school identified a learning disability that was unknown to me before. It was caught early before it could have been detromental to his later education years. Mr. Jewett and Ms. Katsufis worked treamdously hard with my son Dominic and for that I am eternally grateful.

It's no wonder that some have labled the current administration as uncaring and non-responsive. While fully competent, the previous admin. excelled at pressing the flesh and kissing babies. This administration may lack some of the political finess but take a look at what matters. The acedemics here are better than ever as Coyote Hills is one of the highest ranking schools in the district. I can't speak for anyone else but I don't need the staff to come out and hug me and hold my hand, I do need them to make sure that all of our children are in a secure environment that promotes learning and that's exactly what they are doing. We should all be thankful that we have an administration that is more concerned with the safety and education of our children than the pampering of a few needy parents.

I love Coyote Hills. My son is a third grader and has only attended 2/3 grade there. His teachers have been wonderful and I absolutely love how they care about him. I have had great experiences with the principals and the special area teachers also. My husband and I are both teachers and we see the benefits of our child attending Coyote Hills!

I am a parent that has written a not so satisfied review before. I am here to say that I am happy with the changes in administration this year, so far. The changes were well needed. As for now, I am impressed and I hope other parents are as well.

My children have been going to Coyote Hills since it opened. It was such a wonderful atmosphere with the Barrett administration. The parents, teachers, students and administration worked so well together and as a parent...I always felt welcome. I feel the reason that the parent's are not as involved as they used to be is due to the fact that it is a very unwelcome environment. Whenever I go into to the office to pick-up my children for an appointment or drop something off for them, it seems as if I am bothering the office staff. I am very pleased with the education that my children are receiving and still work closely with each of their teacher's, but the feeling that we are a part of the 'Coyote Hills Family' is long gone. It is a shame, it was an excellent school.

I have always loved Coyote Hills for my children. The last couple of years have not been so great. The enthusiasm with staff and students is not really there anymore. I think they need to get Ms. Woolsey back in Administration. She was the schools heart and soul.

I stongly agree with other comments about Administration. The new principal should run the school the way it used to be ran back in the good ole days at Coyote HIlls. She should definately make some changes.

Coyote Hills is a very good school and the teachers that my children have had are wonderful and very dedicated to their students. I must agree that the staff can be, sometimes unfriendly or unapproachable. The principal in the last 2 years is not the best, but maybe her 3rd year will be the winner. I volunteer, so I spend time at the school and am aware that the school is understaffed, and I don't like that it affects the care of the children. But, my children are getting a good ed. and that is the bottom line.

My girls have spent the past 2 years at Coyote Hills Elementary and are continuing there this year. I am very pleased with the education and the teachers at this school. The teachers, administration, office staff, specialists and even the cafeteria staff are always willing to help. They have always had my children's best interest at heart. In respect to parent involvement, I know that parents volunteer regularly and their help is vital to the teachers and office. I would like to see more parents involved in the PTSO and other events where there is little turnout. These are our children and they are worth it! Overall, Coyote Hills is where I want my kids to stay and complete their elementary education!

If it weren't for the student council and the NJHS, our school wouldn't be much. We are barely getting by and aren't standing out.

This was our daughter's first year at Coyote Hills. We soon found out she was academically behind her peers after attending a Charter School last year. Her 2nd grade teacher, Ms. Ramey went above and beyond to help her catch up and Mrs. Birt (the Intervention Specialist) met with our daughter on a regular basis to talk to her about how she was feeling. By the end of the school year she was doing much better academically and loved going to school again! We are grateful to everyone at the school and are looking forward to next year!

I, too, am very sad to see the negative opinions of our school! Coyote Hills is, in OUR opinion, a well run school, with teachers who care, staff that is professional and many academic opportunities for our two sons. I love to be an involved parent there, there are so many different ways to be involved. We have received prompt responses from Administration when there have been concerns. Our boys have had positive experiences and not, but that is normal in any school. When we feel there is something alarming, we pursue it, and we get answers. These principals, teachers and staff do a great job for a school this size. Thank you Coyote Hills, you are appreciated!

We have been at Coyote Hills for 6 years and I have found that there are some outstanding teachers who really care about the individual students and the class. The original administration with Mr Barrett was very strong and he built a team that consisted of the students, teachers, parents and community. The school is very large and I think we could change the attitudes of the students with the more involvement from the teachers and parents who seem to really care. The administration needs to act not just be present at the school.

I was very sad to see such negative reviews posted about our school, staff and principal. I have to say that this has not been my experience at this school.I have volunteered at our school since my kids starting at Coyote Hills 4 years ago, and have seen first hand how hard staff and administration work to accommodate so many kids and their parents.I know that all concerns cannot be dealt with during the school day, however we have teachers/administrators that are great about returning phone calls in the evenings to try to deal with parent concerns.

After reading these reviews, I strongly agree with the lack of communication, discipline and safety with students and staff in regards to bullying. This school does not deal with problems and the staff is very unprofessional.

My children have attended Coyote Hills for 4 years. They have had some outstanding teachers! My greatest frustration had been dealing with administration during the last two years. The new principal is very unapproachable and very unaccessible.

Very disappointed this will be the third year my children are here at this school. My son has not gained one grade level and is still working on tasks in 6th grade that were mastered in 3rd in a Dysart School. My daughter is below reading level as well entering 1st grade, not gaining anything after 2 years of pre-K and a very disappointing Kindergarten year. This school focuses on test scores and not the student. Very Disappointed.

This school is by far the best. My oldest daughter graduated from 8th grade (Coyote Hills)2yrs ago & now attends SMHS. My youngest daughter is now in the 7th with Coyote Hills. I am very impressed with this school. They care about the children & their academics. They tutor when it is needed & they are very good about informing parents about the children s progress & what needs to be done if there is a problem. I have read some of the postings on here & can't believe parents have not been informed about certain things. I think some children need to be held responsible as well if parents are not receiving information. This school is very good about things like that - they also keep copies of everything in the front office. The office staff is awesome!Kind, Caring & always willing to go above and beyond! Great Job Coyote Hills!

My son went is in first grade now, but I was really impressed on how well they treated the kindergarteners, and how nice the front office girls are, the principle is very nice expecially Jennifer Woosley. I will be missing her the most, she is moving to another school. I just hope they will have all day kindergarten next school year for my other child.

Our children have attended Coyote Hills Elementary School for the last five years. We have had a wonderful experience at the school with both children. The administration has been particularly excellent, and the school is solid academically. We especially like that the school uses the Spaulding phonics method.

Coyote Hills Elementary School is a wonderful school in so many ways. The school is staffed with extraordinary teachers, who care about their students. They are very intelligent, and the teachers are highly educated (check out their level of degrees completed - if you get a chance). I have personally attended all the field trips that my child went on throughout the past five years. I was extremely impressed with the way they handle all the field trips, and extracurricular activities. The test scores (like AIMS) done at all grade level displays that the teachers are going a magnificent job. We are pleased with all aspects of the school. They have wonderful resources and activities for all age groups. There is a lot of homework given to the students, but they excel because of it.

My children were with Deer Vall Unified Schools before attending Coyote Hills. I have seen a big difference. I agree they are learning at least a grade ahead but I feel they lack in so much more. I have never been asked to show my ID to enter the school, I don't hear from the teacher except for an email with scores fm tests, I don't get told anything about field trips etc unless it's the day before or my children tell me. We are moving back to Deer Valley School District soon.

I am disappointed in the school system. The lack of communication between the school and parents is horrible. The system to discipline is frustrating. I, personally, was not informed when my son was sent to the Principal's office. The teacher to student ratio is extremely high. Students as young as 10 are expected to change classes throughout the day. The student schedules are confusing, the studends do not change classes with their homeroom classmates, they split up.

Coyote Hills has great teachers. My daughter needed some extra help in math. She was tutored by her teacher in the mornings for a couple of weeks. That extra time spend at tutoring really helped her.

I visited my granddaughter's classroom this morning. I was pleased to find the children well behaved and such good listeners. I read them several stories from my favorite books and when I finished several of the children thanked me for reading to them. Ms. Arnold is doing a very good job! NaNa ( a Second Gr. teacher)

My child has attended this school for two years (4th & 5th gr). I am very disappointed. I find the communication between the school and parents at this grade level unacceptable. I must contact the school to know what is going on because no information is provided. I am not aware of any of the extracurricular activities provided that other parents are speaking of here. Maybe they are there but myself or my child never knew how to get involved in them or at what grade level they are offered. Both parents work in our family and rely on the school to provide us with information because we cannot be involved any other way. I get the impression they really don't care. I hear good things about the younger grades but I've not been happy with 4th or 5th.

My daughter has been at Coyote Hills for two years, since kindergarten. In my opinion, she has had two of the best teachers, Mrs. Reed and now in 1st grade, Mrs. Hazelwood. These two outstanding teachers have guided my daughter and taught her so much. Their care for the students and willingness to make learning fun and not filled with pressure, has made my daughter absolutely love going to school every morning! Thank you for leaving your 'mark' on her life!

My daughter entered Coyote Hills as a 7th grader. We were terribly dissapointed on all levels. Their seems to be an attitude that students cannot handle any homework, any written or oral reports (book reports consist of puppet making, diaramas, etc.), or even answering quiz questions with complete sentences. My daughter feels as if she has regressed to 3rd or 4th grade, even including the work assignments in her art class. I wonder how these children will handle high school when they have to juggle homework in every class and mid-terms for multiples subjects all at the same time. We were also very dissapointed in the poor communication between the school and parents.

My two boys attended school at Coyote Hills and now my daughter attends there. I have been very impressed with the knowledge, skills and level of commitment of all the teachers we have come in contact with. In addition, the school provides the students with many extra-curricular activities and classes, such as music, art, PE and all types of sports and other activities. Parents are very involved at this school. They have a strong PTA there with many committed members. The only downside to this school is the very large number of students, in each classroom and schoolwide.

We were new at this school at the beginning of the year. My 3rd grade son had an anxiety (panic) attack the second week. The staff, assist. principal, teacher(s), and intervention specialist were very responsive and supportive as we saught help through a child psychologist. His teacher was kind and professional even when we requested a new classroom teacher to begin again, and the new teacher was phenomenal in her patience and support of my son and his needs as he struggled through the next few weeks and months. It was tempting to pull him out of school because his phobia was so great at first, but thanks to a supportive staff and environment, he is adjusted and thriving in his environment. The intervention specialist is fabulous and always there for students and parents whenever a set-back occurs. My son is back to being an 'A' student! Thank You All!

My kids have attended this school since it opened it's doors. It's a great school with great teachers. This school is probably top-notch in AZ but when the 'budget cuts' hit our 'future - our kids' all great schools are going to suffer in so many ways that hinder 'our future govt'. What happened to asking the tax payers 'what we think & where cuts should be made & whether we're willing to keep the cuts away from the schools to keep 'our future' safe? Everytime there's a budget cut it seems to hit our schools - Our kids didn't create this deficit. They can't even drive 'alternate fuel' vehicles yet anyway!
