This school is simply amazing. The atmosphere is excellent, and the student's drive for academic success is clearly visible.

Good academic record, and a variety of extracurricular activities and clubs for students. Need more programs for student safety.

Franklin High has been a school for its fourth year now, and already has had more principals than its students can count (or care to remember). Academically, Franklin provides a substantial amount of quality classes to choose from, including many honors and AP level courses--most of which are headed by quality teachers who know what they're doing. There is however, a subgroup of subpar teachers among the faculty. (I could name a few who I wouldn't mind to see leaving.) There's a plethora of activities, yet only mild student involvement in them. Safety and discipline is sometimes taken to annoying extremes--the guards outside the joint-shared library often implement ridiculous and questionable rules that show little concern for the safety of students. Overall however, Franklin rates fairly well in comparison to other high schools in the district. Every school has its irksome qualities and flaws; Franklin's aren't anything to worry about.

I'm impressed by this school. I think the principal, Dr. Douglas, is doing an exceptional job in setting the tone of responsibility and diligence; he's visible and personable. All the teachers' I've had the chance to meet have been competent and committed. And by the way, Toby Johnson is a great feeder school. The school is diverse ethnically and racially. I'd love to see greater ethnic/racial diversity in the faculty. I do think there are still some logistics that can be worked out, but they pertain to the school operating at capacity; so, while the traffic flow is improved since the 1st year, it's still an issue; awards nights are lengthy. Overall, I am glad my daughter has had the chance to attend Franklin High School. I really can't comment on the other two criteria (extra-curricular activities & parental involvement).

I believe if you're child is a high achiever, it's probably a great school to attend. I don't believe it offers alot to students that need extra help with sports, or other extracurricular activities. Notification for sports have always been received late before the fall tryouts. I believe that all students should have an opportunity to participate in sports or other activities not only high achievers.
