we just recently said goodbye to Hammock Point as we have moved to central florida. My son so enjoyed his 1st two and a half years of elementary school and I enjoyed volunteering! This school appreciates parental envolvement at any level. They are very organized and have many fun activities that involve families to participate. It will be hard to find a school to compare to this one. Hammock Point you will be missed.

Hammock Pointe Elementary School presents a wonderful learning environment for students. Parents are encouraged to participate in the many activities that occur during the day, at night and on weekends. Hammock Pointe is a School of Promise. This commitment on behalf of administraiton, faculty and students creates the inter-generational program at Regents Park. The positive atmosphere at the school makes it a great place to attend school, go to work, and volunteer. You can't beat Hammock Pointe.

My daughter has been at HPES from k-5 and I have a daughter entering in 2007. The school is extremely safe. Teachers are awesome. It's a shame some parents feel the need to switch to a school that provides gifted programs when this school exists. I had the opportunity & turned it down to stay at HPES. As my childs years go on, fewer parents get involved. In 5th grade the after school & during school activities are incredible. This truly is a non-bully school whereas you feel as ease knowing your child is in their hands. Sad to see Ms. Veiga leave the school.

A lovely community school with a great student body. Recently added new classrooms with the building of a whole new facility. Very nice.

I love the school, the teachers are wonderful, sadly I am seeing a decline in the number of parents volunteering this year. There should be more parental involvement since the paid aid position doesn't exist any more. You couldn't find a more involved principal anywhere!

My son has been in the school since kinder. The principlal and vice principal takes the time to know all the children at school. My son's third grade teacher took the time to help him after school with math. When I spoke with the counselor about problems at home, she helped me and my son. I feel the school is my extended family. My son feels safe at school and knows he can talk to anyone there. The P.E teachers and music teachers are wonderful. Last year the P.E. teacher was aware I was going through a divorce and knew my son was upset. The P.E. teacher gave my son a dolphin football jersey. However, the dynamics with the students are changing. I have notice there are more children this school year which consider english as a secodary lang. and there are more children in the classroom. It's still a great school.

My daughter is in second grade in this school. She seems to be doing well, but is not as inspired as she has been in her previous school. Hammock Pointe seems very business-like. My daugher complains that the students do not get much play time, or down time. The homework seems appropriate for her level, and she does not complain about mean kids, or mean teachers.

I am not thrilled that they've started construction with little to no communication with the families that have their children attending the school. They need to revise the parking/traffic circle situation there. It's awful. When the police are there to watch for speeders and those that don't make proper turns, etc. it's much worse. It shouldn't take as long as it takes to drop a child off on the premises. And there is little parking. Not nearly enough. Perhaps they should have flexible start times. Grades K-2 start at 8:30 and 3-5 start at 8:00. Or something along those lines...

Hammock Pointe is a wonderful elementary school. They have initiated several programs to encourage more involvement at home, especially in reading and math. Because my daughter read 20 books a month, the principal actually came to our house, gave her a book and read her a bed time story. The problem at Hammock Pointe is overcrowding, which I assume is now rampant in public schools. A new auditorium/cafeteria is underway, which is a good thing because only about 1/3 of the students can fit. The teachers get involved to raise money for activities including putting on a 'spaghetti dinner' for parents and students. Hammock Pointe encourages participation by the parents, and invites parents to have breakfast with their kids at the school bimonthly, and the family is given a book to read to the kids. Finally, the school is an A school. I would recommend it.

I didn't go to school in any Florida school. I've had 2 older sons who have gone through school in Nebraska and Iowa. Compared to my experience in Cedar Rapids, IA, and my sons' experience in Omaha, NE, the quality of education at this school is substandard. With the introduction of trimesterly report cards, it is more imperitive than ever that mid-term report cards (with letter-grade evaluations like those on final report cards) be issued. The way it stands now, it is near impossible for a parent to correct for deficient performances. Both my two older sons were classified as 'Gifted' as was I. I know what it means to be 'gifted'. This school has yet to even evaluate my youngest son for giftedness. I have pretty much given up on that idea, since it would mean that he would have to transfer schools anyway. This system is screwed up. But then again, the entire state of Florida isn't exactly known for quality public schools.
